MS Therapy Centre: Our history in pictures

There are now 65 Oxygen Therapy Centres in the UK and Ireland, but the first centre opened here in Dundee in August 1982.

Oxygen Therapy was a treatment with growing research and positive results, but the medical community was still skeptical, and it lacked support from the establishment. Despite this, Professor Philip James persevered (with a group of volunteer patients and carers) and many lives have been positively changed as a result.

Here is an article from the early years of the centre. Can you believe, we're still at the same location - Peddie Street. We've expanded into the next unit and had a few upgrades along the way, but we're still very much connected to our roots.

Here are a few images of our first two Hyperbaric Oxygen Tanks. The first tank was for two people and you had to lay down to receive treatment. Our most recent tank was engineered especially for us and takes 8 people in a seated position. It had to be airlifted through the roof, which would have been an unusual sight for local residents
